Draft guidelines
NHMRC is currently undertaking public consultation on the draft Guidelines. Please note that the NHMRC Guidelines for Managing Risks in Recreational Water (2008) remain current until the updated version is finalised and published on the NHMRC website. This is because NHMRC advice might change depending on input from the consultation process and whether new information becomes available before final publication.
The draft Australian Recreational Water Quality Guidelines are available to view. Feedback on the draft Guidelines can be submitted through the NHMRC consultation hub until 27 February 2026.
