Recognising unwavering dedication to excellence in peer review for health and medical research.

The NHMRC Peer Review Excellence Award recognises the outstanding contribution of an individual who demonstrates their commitment to NHMRC’s principles of peer review. This includes, but is not limited to, extent of contributions, enthusiasm to participate, quality of assessment, willingness to take on additional requests, and their commitment as mentors.

For this new award, there will be 2 categories:

  • Senior/Experienced Peer Reviewer
  • Early or Mid-Career Researcher (EMCR) as a peer reviewer.

Nominees will be identified by the office of NHMRC.

Nominees will demonstrate their commitment to NHMRC peer review processes, quality of assessments, and have the respect of their peers in the health and medical research community through:

  • Commitment to peer review –Dedication to the NHMRC’s peer review process, including extent of contributions, willingness to participate, and enthusiasm for the process
  • Leadership and mentorship – Demonstrated commitment to mentoring, guiding and supporting less experienced reviewers, contributing to the overall improvement of the peer review process by promoting high standards of peer review practice
  • Quality of assessments – Consistent delivery of high-quality and rigorous assessments. This includes maintaining confidentiality, thoroughness, constructive feedback, and impartiality
  • Adherence to NHMRC principles – Adherence to the NHMRC principles of peer review, including fairness, transparency and accountability.

The award winner is selected by the NHMRC CEO based on the above selection criteria.

The CEO may seek additional nominations and/or consult others on the nominees in making their selection.
