Preface
Public consultation is a core feature of the guideline development work of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC). It contributes to the accountability of the agency and the independence of the advice.
For the draft Australian Guidelines to Reduce Health Risks from Drinking Alcohol, public consultation was undertaken from 16 December 2019 to 24 February 2020. The process was conducted in accordance with Section 13 of the National Health and Medical Research Council Act 1992.
In total, 51 submissions were received in response to public consultation and of those submissions, 45 included permission to be published. The submissions which included permission to be published are outlined in this report. Redactions have been made to some submissions to remove personal information. Where redactions have been made, the submissions have been marked accordingly.
A summary of the main suggestions and key actions taken in response to the submissions received is outlined in Appendix 5 of the guidelines.
