The Targeted Call for Research (TCR): Improving Indigenous maternal and child health in the early years 2022 grant opportunity aims are to identify strength-based, action-oriented approaches and interventions that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples' concepts of health and wellbeing, cultural practices, and knowledge and learning to ensure that all children have the best start to life.
This TCR addresses a significant research need to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children are born healthy and strong so they thrive in their early years and enjoy long and healthy lives (Closing the Gap targets two and four).
The outcomes of the research will improve maternal and child healthcare health policies, interventions and models of care. The program will also create a sustainable network that will extend beyond the conclusion of the funded research.
It is expected that researchers will work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities to ensure the methods are feasible, sustainable and culturally secure, and represent best practice to improve maternal and child health in the early years.
