MRFF – Traumatic Brain Injury Mission - 2024 Traumatic Brain Injury Grant Opportunity

The Medical Research Future Fund (MRFF) – 2024 Traumatic Brain Injury Grant Opportunity will support medical research and medical innovation projects that:

  • Stream 1 (Targeted Call for Research): improve care for moderate to severe traumatic brain injury by optimising informatics approaches that gather nationally representative data.
  • Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research): test the efficacy and complete a process evaluation of novel treatments, clinical indicators and/or interventions for mild traumatic brain injury that improve long-term patient outcomes.
  • Stream 3 (Incubator): conduct implementation research to test the effectiveness of best practice rehabilitation and/or care models that are focused on personalised outcomes to meet the needs of the individual, for:
    • Topic A: mild traumatic brain injury
    • Topic B: moderate to severe traumatic brain injury.
  • Stream 4 (Targeted Call for Research): with a focus on Priority Populations, test the efficacy of novel rehabilitation models or approaches and complete a process evaluation for mild traumatic brain injury in improving personalised long-term patient outcomes that meet the needs of the individual.

The intended outcome of the research funded by this grant opportunity is to improve the health and wellbeing of Australians by:

  • Stream 1 (Targeted Call for Research): developing a tool for personalised care for moderate to severe traumatic brain injury in all care settings that is facilitated by evidence and information.
  • Stream 2 (Targeted Call for Research): generating approaches to improve long term outcomes for mild traumatic brain injury.
  • Stream 3 (Incubator): generating evidence to support existing best-practice personalised rehabilitation and/or care models for traumatic brain injury.
  • Stream 4 (Targeted Call for Research): generating novel personalised rehabilitation and/or care models for mild traumatic brain injury.

This grant opportunity is being administered by NHMRC on behalf of the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care.
