NHMRC presents: Speaking of Science – International Day of Persons with Disabilities
The United Nation’s International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPwD) is an opportunity to promote community awareness, understanding and acceptance for the 5.5 million people with disability in Australia and to celebrate their immense achievements.
Join us for a live panel discussion in acknowledgement of IDPwD as we aim to ‘amplify the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future’ as part of our Speaking of Science series.
Hosted by NHMRC’s Disability Champion (as part of our Inclusion Network) Dr Julie Glover, you’ll hear from a range of diverse voices from across the disability sector including:
• Professor Jackie Leach Scully, Professor of Bioethics and Director of the Disability Innovation Institute at the University of New South Wales
• Mr Adam Johnston, solicitor, holding a Masters of Laws from the University of New England, Armidale, and a graduate diploma from the Australian Institute of Company Directors
• Ms Yvonne Parnell, former CEO of Future Living, a not-for-profit entity in the disability sector, as well as a disability patient and consumer advocate.

Over $3 million investment to tackle global antimicrobial resistance
NHMRC is taking strides to address significant global health threats by investing over $3 million into international collaborative research aiming to tackle antimicrobial resistance.
The Joint Programming Initiative on Antimicrobial Resistance (JPIAMR) has announced the funding outcomes for the JPIAMR 17th transnational call: Interventions moving forward to promote action to counteract the emergence and spread of bacterial and fungal resistance and to improve treatments (IMPACT). National Health and Medical Research Strategy chair webinar
The Department of Health and Aged Care’s Health and Medical Research Office (HMRO) extends an invitation for you to participate in the National Health and Medical Research Strategy chair webinar on Thursday 5 December 2024 from 2:00PM–3:00PM AEDT.
Ms Rosemary Huxtable AO PSM, Chair of the National Health and Medical Research Strategy, will describe:
• the approach for development of the National Strategy
• next steps in the National Strategy development
• ways in which you can get involved in consultation activities.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions following the presentation.

Open for applications: Targeted Call for Research on Oral Health Care in Australia 2024
The Targeted Call for Research (TCR): Oral Health Care in Australia 2024 is now open for applications in Sapphire.
The objectives of this grant opportunity are to address oral health issues on Australian population to develop a better understanding of key areas of impact for populations most at risk of poor oral health and to expand research capacity in oral health care and implementation of service delivery programs.

We encourage applicants to work closely with their RAOs well in advance of the due date to ensure they can submit applications on time.
Applicants are reminded that:
- Researchers listed on applications must have a Sapphire account. New account registrations must be submitted at least 72 hours prior to application close. The Research Help Centre will continue to respond to Sapphire-related enquiries until Wednesday 4 December 2024 13:00 AEDT.
- Only applicants who completed minimum data requirements by the deadline can submit a full application.
- Applications submitted after close of round will not be accepted.
Applicants to the CRE in One Health Research stream are reminded of the additional stream-specific eligibility requirements outlined in the CRE 2025 Guidelines at section 4 and Appendix A.

Applicants are reminded that only applicants who completed minimum data by the due date can submit an application. It is also the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they meet all eligibility requirements, including limits on the number of times a person can be named as a Chief Investigator on applications submitted to a grant opportunity.
Applicants should ensure:
• their Sapphire account is active or access to Sapphire has been requested,
• their organisation is an approved MRFF eligible organisation before the close date, and
• any intended participating institutions are listed in Sapphire or request that a new participating institution be added by emailing help@nhmrc.gov.au, including the institution's website address (URL) and ABN (if applicable).
