Update on NHMRC's new grant program

The new fact sheets on options for salary support and supporting flexible working arrangements are now available on NHMRC's website.

Grant variations and new grant program eligibility

Researchers looking to submit variations that alter the end date of their current grants (e.g. defer commencement date, extend end date, defer/suspend in progress, extended leave and/or change in FTE variations) should be wary of the impact this may have on their and/or their team’s eligibility to apply for and hold grants under the new grant program schemes. Eligibility to apply for and hold investigator, Synergy and Ideas Grants will depend on a researcher's NHMRC grant portfolio held on 1 January 2020.

Accreditation round open – Advanced Health Research and Translation Centres and Centres for Innovation in Regional Health

NHMRC is inviting submissions from groups seeking NHMRC accreditation as an Advanced Health Research and Translation Centre or Centre for Innovation in Regional Health. Submissions close 8:00pm (AEDT) on 18 March 2019.

Invitation for 2019 peer review

Invitations to participate in the 2019 round of several NHMRC funding schemes will shortly be sent via RGMS. NHMRC encourages members of the research community to contribute their expertise to the peer review process, particularly as we move to the new grant program. Further information on NHMRC peer review, including the new grant program, will be published in the coming months.

Targeted Call for Research (TCR) into Nutrition in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples

The aim of this TCR is to provide funding for rigorous and culturally-safe research into improving the nutritional health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The grant opportunity will be available on GrantConnect from 14 November 2018 with the scheme open to accept applications in RGMS.

Development Grants scheme—call for commercial assessor nominations

NHMRC’s Development Grants scheme is seeking early self-nominations from experts to participate as commercial assessors for applications in the 2019 round. The Development Grants scheme opens for applications on 14 November 2018 and the peer review meetings are scheduled for late May 2019 via teleconference. If you have research commercialisation experience and would like to participate in the assessment process, please submit your nomination through the Development Grants self-nomination portal.

Applications opened in RGMS on 26 October 2018 with minimum data due 5:00pm (AEDT) on 21 November 2018. Applications close 5:00pm (AEDT) on 19 December 2018.

Stronger collaboration with European researchers

NHMRC and the European Research Council (ERC) have signed an implementation arrangement. This will allow ERC-funded researchers to host NHMRC-funded researchers, helping to strengthen linkages and build new collaborations between Australian and European researchers.

NHMRC signs memorandum of cooperation with Japan

NHMRC and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED) have signed a memorandum of cooperation to help strengthen linkages and build new collaborations between Australian and Japanese researchers.

The 7th Annual NHMRC Symposium on Research Translation – only three weeks to go

NHMRC is partnering with The Reward Alliance, an international network of funders, editors and researchers with a shared interest in ensuring value in health and medical research, to bring you this year’s NHMRC Sumposium 'Ensuring Value in Research'

Being held at The University of Sydney on 27-28 November 2018, the Symposium is open to anyone with an interest in ensuring value in health and medical research, whether they are researchers themselves or end users, to share their ideas, expertise and experience. The full program is now available.
