The Chief Executive Officer of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), Professor Anne Kelso AO, and the President of the Japan Agency of Medical Research and Development (AMED), Dr Makoto Suematsu signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) in Canberra on 17 October.
NHMRC and AMED have worked together through the multilateral Global Alliance for Chronic Diseases and through other international fora. The signing of the MoC will further strengthen collaboration between the two agencies, enable deepened cooperation and collaboration between Australian and Japanese health and medical researchers and pave the way for joint scientific events and research.
An initial event to promote the development of collaborative research proposals including submissions to the 2019 e-ASIA Joint Research Program health-related call on cancer and infectious diseases will be held during early March 2019 in Singapore.
By promoting and encouraging collaborative health and medical research activities amongst researchers from Japan and Australia, the MoC will help ensure both countries contribute to, share in, and benefit from the work of the global research community.
