Final year Financial Statement due six months after the end of the funding period

Finance Officers are asked to ensure that final year Financial Statements do not report a negative balance. This occurs where total expenditure reported over the life of the grant is greater than total grant income.

NHMRC acknowledges that institutions usually spend more than the funds awarded. However, the final year Financial Statement is only to report on NHMRC expenditure not expenditure against funds from other sources.

From 2017 onwards when a final year Financial Statement is received that has a negative balance, the statement will be rejected. The administering institution will be required to resubmit the report with a positive or zero balance.

More information on Financial Reporting requirements is available on the NHMRC website

RAOs are asked to forward this message to their Finance Officers.

Project Grants scheme - Grant Proposal Template

The Grant Proposal Template for the Project Grants scheme has been updated to incorporate a page number in the footer. Applicants are advised to use the updated template, available on the NHMRC website, to complete the Grant Proposal.

Applicants may also use the earlier 2017 version of the Grant Proposal template which was available on the website from 23 December 2016 till 18 January 2017 for Project Grants (v1), but must ensure that the page number is included in the footer.

Naming and formatting requirements for the Grant Proposal are listed in section 10.3.3 of the NHMRC Funding Rules 2017 and are strictly enforced. Applications that fail to comply with these requirements may be excluded from consideration.

Project Grants scheme-specific advice and instructions to applicants

Section 4.1 of the Project Grants scheme-specific advice and instructions to applicants, titled ‘Key changes to scheme-specific parts of the application form’, has been updated to reflect the removal of both the ‘nomination of possible assessors’ and the ‘nomination of a non-assessor’ sections from the 2017 Project Grants round.
