How will the NHMRC be involved in the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) consultation process?

The NHMRC is working with ARC to support the consultation process, in particular around the use of research publications data.

One metric used for ERA will be research publications data, including both citation metrics and journal-based rankings. ARC's consultation process includes seeking feedback from the sector on the ranking of journals in each discipline. Disciplines are defined by Field of Research (FoR) codes and grouped into eight discipline clusters.

The NHMRC will work with the ARC to prepare a consolidated response to submissions on the journal outlet rankings for discipline clusters 7 (Biomedical and Clinical Research) and 8 (Public Health).

As each Higher Education Provider (HEP) is allowed only a single submission to the consultation process, the NHMRC encourages all NHMRC-funded research staff at the relevant institutions to be involved in this process within their institutions.

Submissions to the ARC consultation process close on the 24th of July 2008.
