AWC- Animal Welfare Committee

The Animal Welfare Committee provide advice on all matters pertaining to the conduct and ethics of animal experimentation.

Terms of reference

The NHMRC Animal Welfare Committee has the following terms of reference.

  1. To advise the Chief Executive Officer, the Council and Research Committee of NHMRC on issues pertaining to the conduct and ethics of using animals for scientific purposes.
  2. To be responsible to NHMRC, through the Research Committee, for the regular review and, if necessary, revision of the Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes, 2004 (the Code), and other NHMRC documents related to animal welfare.
  3. In consultation with Research Committee, to undertake activities that assists Animal Ethics Committees in interpretation of the Code.
